Governor Abbott
Lays Out Priorities for Education

The 85th Legislative Session is well underway, and this week Governor Abbott gave his biennial “State of the State Address”, where he addressed a joint session of the Texas Legislature to outline his priorities and emergency items.

Speaking on the floor of the Texas House on Tuesday, Governor Abbott urged lawmakers to pass legislation to invest more in optional, high-quality pre-K, reform child protective services, fund job-creating programs, boost accountability within the state’s education system, and expand access to high-speed internet and digital learning opportunities for Texas students.

Many of the priorities Governor Abbott outlined fall in line with Texas Aspires’ legislative agenda and would go a long way to make much-needed, meaningful improvements to our state’s education system.

Texas Aspires has committed to championing policies that prioritize postsecondary readiness, increase student achievement, boost accountability, and provide our students and parents with the resources necessary to succeed. We look forward to working with Governor Abbott and lawmakers to pass legislation that will improve educational outcomes and our state’s education system for generations to come.
We believe every Texas child, regardless of race, ethnicity or zip code, deserves a quality education. You can help make that happen.
